| Description | Guanine quadruplexes and host transcription factor interactions: Targeting viral cccDNA to treat chronic HBV. Nikolas Shapka 1, Kuldeep Kaur 2, Maulik Badmalia 1, Vanessa Meier-Stephenson 1-3 1 Department of Medicine, Division of Infectious Diseases, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB; 2 Department of Medical Microbiology and Immunology, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB; 3 Li Ka Shing Institute of Virology, University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB Email: nshapka@ualberta.ca Background: The covalently-closed circular DNA (cccDNA) of chronic HBV contains a G4-quadruplex (G4Q), a DNA secondary structure comprised of stacked guanine tetrads. HBV’s G4Q recruits the host transcription factor Sp1 to facilitate viral transcription. We are exploring interference of this interaction. |
